About the Program

As one of the first sustainable tourism certification programs in the world, Green Tourism has always been a leader in making it easy for businesses and travellers to make a difference. Green Tourism is one of the most sought after eco-labels because each of its members receives a one-on-one assessment, and expert advice from a trained sustainability assessor who reviews everything from energy efficiency to food sources.

Green Tourism’s customers include all types of tourism-related businesses: accommodations and lodging; wineries, breweries, meaderies and distilleries; tour operators; tourist attractions; restaurants, pubs and cafés; adventure, wilderness and eco-tourism operators.

  • Green Tourism is recognized as the world’s largest and most credible sustainable tourism certification program.
  • With over 15 years of experience, there are currently more than 2,000 certified businesses internationally. A full list can be found at www.green-tourism.com.
  • Criteria are aligned with ISO 14001 and exceed the Global Sustainable Tourism Council Criteria, as validated by the International Centre for Responsible Tourism, and take a holistic approach to sustainability by covering categories from management to cultural and heritage practices to waste, water, carbon and energy.
  • There are currently more than 100 Canadian businesses that are certified or “awaiting grading”, covering a range of different types of tourism operators, including wineries, hotels, attractions, campgrounds, tour operators, restaurants and more. A full list of Canadian members can be found at www.greentourismcanada.ca.
