John Wright to be Honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award at 2025 Ontario Tourism Summit

Toronto, ON — Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) is proud to announce that John Wright, a visionary business leader and tourism champion from Kingston, Ontario, will receive the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award.

This prestigious honour will be presented at the Ontario Tourism Summit on October 28, 2025, during the Lifetime Achievement Awards Lunch presented by Air Canada, held at the Ottawa Conference & Event Centre. The celebration begins at 12:00 p.m. Tickets, individual or tables, are available for purchase through the TIAO website, here.

A Legacy of Leadership and Impact

John Wright’s career spans over four decades of transformative contributions to Ontario’s visitor economy. From his early days in Kingston radio to his pioneering
work in destination development, John has consistently elevated the region’s tourism profile through innovation, collaboration, and storytelling. After relocating from Montreal to Kingston at age 21, John quickly recognized the city’s potential as a tourism hub. His leadership in radio, culminating in ownership of Kingston’s top-rated stations, refined his signature strengths: entertainment, community connection, and cross-sector partnership.

John’s defining achievement came with the acquisition and development of Kingston’s 1000 Islands Cruises and Kingston Trolley Tours, which he and his wife
Kim Wright grew into two of the city’s most iconic tourism brands. Their vision and dedication helped shape Kingston’s waterfront, extend the tourism season, and
create unforgettable visitor experiences.

A Champion for Kingston and Ontario

John’s guiding philosophy, “what’s good for Kingston is good for us,” has inspired collaboration across operators, municipalities, and cultural institutions. His work has strengthened marquee events, improved accessibility, and driven repeat visitation through strategic, sustainable growth. As a mentor and leader, John has nurtured teams, championed public-private partnerships, and delivered measurable results: vibrant down towns, thriving shoulder seasons, and a resilient tourism economy.

“Throughout his career in media and tourism, John has demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, and dedication to the betterment of our community. His
numerous accomplishments include the development of a waterfront accommodation, known today as the Confederation Place Hotel, the revitalization of
Kingston's tour boat industry, the introduction of unique attractions such as the dinner cruise boat, and the establishment of new radio stations that have amplified
our local talent beside national and international talent. Moreover, John's relentless efforts in lobbying for the construction of the Large Venue Entertainment Centre
(LVEC) have transformed downtown Kingston into a thriving hub for arts and culture. The LVEC has attracted world-renowned artists and performers, significantly
boosting our city's profile as a premier tourist destination.” – Mayor Bryan Paterson, City of Kingston
