Good afternoon,
We are asking for your urgent involvement in TIAO’s campaign to extend the Ontario Staycation Tax Credit.
As our industry reopened this year and businesses began their recovery amidst continued economic and labour challenges, the Staycation Tax Credit has been an important tool to encourage Ontarians to explore destinations in their own backyard. Discussions are currently underway at Queen’s Park about whether the province should extend the Staycation Tax Credit beyond its current December 31, 2022 end date.
TIAO supports the extension of the Staycation Tax Credit through 2023 and here’s why:
- Ontarians have only just begun to resume travel and need more time to take advantage of the Tax Credit
- The Tax Credit promotes visitor spending within destinations that benefits other sectors in the local visitor economy, not just eligible accommodations
- It encourages visitors to explore neighbouring destinations and points of interest, dispersing visitor spending
- While some destinations have benefited more directly from the Staycation Tax Credit, it still delivers the key message of rediscovering local – building the consumer habit of domestic spending that our industry needs to become resilient
As such, TIAO will send a letter to Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy to express our support for extending the Ontario Staycation Tax Credit through 2023, as well as expanding the Tax Credit to include transient boating.
We are looking to include as many signatures of support as possible in our letter to demonstrate the importance of the Staycation Tax Credit for our industry. If you would like to participate in our campaign, please fill out this form here (it will ask for your name, e-signature, and company logo).
Thank you for your continued support!
