We are looking to hire an experienced finance professional to fill the role as Financial Controller and to take primary leadership of various financial projects within the organization.  Reporting directly to the CFO, the successful candidate to this position must possess a robust set of financial knowledge, experience, and technological integration skills. They should also possess the ability to work autonomously as well as with various departments simultaneously.  This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in enhancing the financial functionality of a small-to-medium-sized organization.

This position is primarily located in Mississauga, Ontario, Monday to Thursday, 8:30am to 5:30pm. Some in-person work will be required and there is some flexibility to work remotely, with a 32 hour work week.

The Role

The person hired in this role will assist our team in providing fluid financial controls that will develop user-friendly processes for the business and its managers. This position will focus on cloud accounting specifically QuickBooks online (“QBO”), and associated apps or “tech deck”. Specifically, develop a purchase ordering system, develop/create/implement organization-wide expense reporting application, and develop a more robust budget and tracking process. The successful candidate is a self-starter who thrives on finding technological financial solutions that are aligned with the principles of a small business.

Overarching duties and responsibilities:

• Primarily responsible for maintaining proper books by ensuring that all transactions are booked accurately and in a timely basis, all month end and quarter end reconciliations are done and variances researched and resolved.
• Manage accounts payable function by ensuring that all payments to suppliers are correctly made on time and discounts availed. All expenses are coded and recorded correctly. Prepare month end & year end accruals
• All customer CAD and USD deposits are  reconciled to RESCO on a weekly basis
• Monthly Trust Account Reconciliations for TICO
• Monthly cash flow reporting or as required
• Assist with regular TICO reporting as required
• Using QBO platform, research, design, and implement department-wide purchase order system
• Overhaul the Operations budget and spend process, using the QBO apps and purchase order system
• Provide support as required to department team members; including accounts payable and receivable
• Ensure all Federal & Provisional tax payments and monthly HST returns  are made on time
•  Through DEXT  QBO and Plooto manage accounts payable, invoicing & timely supplier payments
• Maintain financial security be adhering to s internal controls and signing authorities in on-line banking Plooto cheques and wires.
•  Maintain and update internal control documentation.
• Recommend policy and procedure changes to increase efficiency within the department.
• Any other duties as assigned

Skills & Experience Required 

• 3 – 5 years progressive accounting experience
• Intermediate to Advanced experience with QuickBooks online and associated apps, such as: Plooto, DEXT and payroll
• Experience with QBO conversion
• Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Office suite, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to work with multiple departments
• Manage multiple projects concurrently
• Intermediate knowledge of foreign currency
• Knowledge of QuickBooks desktop
• Budget and planning experience
• Purchase order experience
• Strong communication skills
• An accounting designation is ideal
• Specified accounting education
• Travel Industry experience an asset
• Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks under tight time frames
• Positive, collaborative, team player
