In accordance with TIAO's By-laws, this will serve as the official notice of the Call for Nominations for the 2023 TIAO Board of Directors.
Working on behalf of TIAO’s members, the Board members play a pivotal role in guiding Ontario’s provincial tourism organization towards a clear vision for the industry's future.
TIAO’s Bylaws allow Directors to serve for an option of three two-year terms or two three-year terms.
TIAO’s Nominating Committee, according to the Nominating Committee Guidelines, is tasked, among other things to do the following:
- Evaluate the needs of the Board and develop a profile of candidates who meet the qualifications to serve as Directors, having regard to the specific and desired competencies and industry sectors required to fill vacancies on the Board with consideration given to ensuring diversity.
- Seek, identify, and recruit qualified candidates to stand for election as Directors; and
- Carry out these duties in a manner that encourages a long-term view of TIAO’s leadership needs as well as Board succession planning.
TIAO Board Directors must meet the following requirements:
- A commitment to the mission and vision of TIAO.
- A commitment to attend Board meetings, Committee Meetings, TIAO’s Annual Tourism Summit and AGM.
- A commitment to serve on one or more TIAO committees.
- In carrying out duties as a Board Director, a commitment and willingness to support, first and foremost, TIAO’s mandate, the interests of the tourism industry and TIAO’s members; and
- The capability to lobby federal, provincial, or other government officials in support of TIAO’s strategic goals and imperatives.
At this time, TIAO is seeking to fill four (4) vacancies for 2023-2024.
Only TIAO members in good standing are permitted to stand for nomination or nominate candidates who are TIAO members in good standing which will run from June 2023 to June 2025 or 2026.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion of TIAO’s overall board composition will be considered when assessing candidates for this position.

Your nominations must include a biography or resume of the candidate and a letter of interest from the candidate and must be received at the TIAO Office no later than Thursday, May 4, 2023. Nominations will be reviewed by the Nominating Committee who are mandated to ensure an appropriate, balanced, cross-sector representation, regional representation and other skills-based representation. The final slate of candidates to be elected at the Annual General Meeting will be sent to members by Friday, May 18, 2023.
