Celebrating Leadership in Our Province - Featuring Karen Peacock

Karen Peacock, Senior Coordinator of Workforce Development & Industry Training (WDIT) led the development and implementation of the Tourism Excellence North 3-Year pilot program, after joining Destination Northern Ontario in November 2015.  

The Tourism Excellence North program was awarded the Tourism Innovator of the Year at the 2018 Ontario Tourism Summit in Windsor. With its success, and upon completion of the pilot, Tourism Excellence North became the Workforce Development and Industry Training pillar at Destination Northern Ontario. The WDIT Pillar, on its own and through several partnerships, proactively guides workforce development and industry training for tourism operators and destinations, their employees, educators, and others who support the tourism industry in Northern Ontario. 

Previously, as Executive Director of the Art Gallery of Sudbury, Karen led its transformation into a financially sustainable organization, guided its business plans for the new Franklin Carmichael Art Centre supported and won the Community Builders of Excellence in Arts Award in 2013. Karen lives in the Greater City of Sudbury.
